Lake bed deposits, Amargosa Valley, California.

Lake bed deposits are characteristically very fine-grained because lake settings typically lack the energy to transport coarse grains far out into the lake. These lake deposits are part of the "Tecopa lakebeds", a rock unit in the Amargosa Valley of SE California that was deposited when the valley was filled by a lake during the wetter Pleistocene Epoch.
