Lake Missoula was a Pleistocene Lake, backed up behind an ice dam across the Clark Fork River in northwestern Montana. It filled the Bitterroot Valley to depths of more than 1000' as can be seen by these shorelines, that reach more than 1000' up this hillside behind Missoula, Montana.
