Tectonic map of the Klamath Mountains of California and Oregon
The Klamath Mountains contain at least four belts of accreted terranes, separated from each other by east-dipping thrust faults. Each belt contains several smaller terranes that came together prior to accretion to North America. Redwoods National Park lies in the Franciscan Belt (considered by many researchers to be outside the Klamath region) and Oregon Caves National Monument lies within the Western Paleozoic and Triassic Belt.
